10 Top Hairstyle

Knowing what not to do to your hairstyle is just as important as what you do to create the hair of your dreams.  Like everything in life, there are dos and don'ts.

Listed below are the top 10 ten actions you don't want to take when it comes to styling your hair.

    1.  Don't go to the salon unprepared to request the hairstyle you wish to wear.

Many hair consumers mistakenly believe that their hairdresser can work miracles, can read their mind and can instantly pick out the best hairstyle for them.

There are many variables to consider when it comes to selecting a hairstyle and it is up to the hair consumer to do their homework and research their own hair options.  Face shape, lifestyle and budget all play into the final style selected.

    2.  Don't select a hairstyle or haircut that is impossible to maintain at home on your own.

While many Hollywood celebrities have a expert hairdresser at their fingertips to make sure their tresses look paparazzi perfect, most consumers have to deal with their hair without those constant hairdressing services.

    3.  Don't skimp on proper hair care or hair styling products

Some hair care lines sold in drugstores may work for some types of hair and some styles.  However, if you have highlighted or chemically processed hair or require added volume or control, the less expensive non-salon lines might not do the trick and could make styling your hair a constant challenge.

Consider your options.  You may be able to compromise by buying both mass market and high quality products and alternate between them for best results.  Or maybe your hairstyle requires high quality hair care lines.  Be honest and don't work hard to achieve a great style only to undermine it with products that don't support it.

    4.  Don't use the wrong hairstyling tools

There are many different tools available to create fabulous styles.  These tools range from blow dryers and curling irons to hot rollers and round brushes.  Make sure you use the proper tools when re-creating your style.

If you're unsure what tools to use, ask your hairdresser to give you a lesson at the salon.  It may be impossible to copy the style your professional hair consultant designed for you if you don't deploy the same styling techniques, products and tools.

    5.  Don't overuse hairstyling products

Less is more when it comes to utilizing styling products.  If you overdo the gels, mousse and hair sprays you risk developing product build-up on your tresses which can make your hair misbehave.

    6.  Don't copy celebrity hairstyles without caution

Keep in mind that Demi Moore and Jessica Simpson can wear just about any hairstyle their heart desires because they have professional hairdressers custom designing those styles to maximize their best features and minimizing their less attractive.

What looks fabulous on Demi and Jessica may not look the same on you unless you truly look exactly like them, have the same type of hair and wear the exact shade of hair color and cosmetics.  Set fair expectations and you won't be disappointed.

    7.  Don't ignore high end cosmetology schools as hairstyling options

Some of the higher end schools such as Toni & Guy and Paul Mitchell employ talented and seasoned professionals as instructors.  The schools have very high standards for the quality of hairdresser they turn out.  As a result, a high end cosmo school is a great place for getting some hairstyling work performed, even if it is just a slight shaping and trim to maintain your high priced style from a different salon.

In fact, a great option is to have your hairstyle created at a top notch salon but have maintenance performed at the cosmo schools to average out your hair style maintenance costs.

    8.  Don't be a slave to hair trends

Hairstyles change constantly as fashion change.  Instead of being a slave to hair trends, find a hairstyle that works best for you and maintain that base look.  If you want to update your tresses to keep them looking fresh, opt for a change in hair color, highlights, lowlights or slight texture.  If you look great in a bob, keep that as your basic style but work with your hairdresser to keep it looking contemporary.

    9.  Don't ignore hair accessories as a fabulous hairstyling option

Some hair consumers mistakenly believe that hair accessories are only applicable for young people or certain types of hair.  This is not correct.  Any hair accessory can be adopted for any age, hair type, texture, fashion or style.  Use these fabulous fashion accessories to instantly change your look without a trip to the salon.

    10.  Don't count out hair extensions as a way to achieve different hairstyles

Whether you want a temporary hairstyle change that a clip-in hair extension can offer or a more permanent change for 3-4 months, hair extensions have come a long way towards affordability and high quality.

The Jessica Simpson clip-in hair extensions are a great first step towards experimenting with new hairstyles in the privacy of your home in just a few minutes.

If you enjoy the clip-in extensions then be bold and try a partial head of fusion style hair extensions for more lasting hairstyle options.

Hair Quiffs style

Blame the return of the hair "quiff" on Patrick Robinson who's the sizzling new designer at Perry Ellis.  Robinson showcased a fun, yet fresh, fashion collection at The Olympus Fashion Week in New York.

Not only did Robinson's spectacular designs showcase the 50s-inspired clothing styles that are currently flooding the fashion scene, he had many of his models coiffed in the hot new quiff-like hairdos.

Famous for being upbeat, optimistic and edgy, Robinson matched his fun fashion designs with the retro hairstyles that are a combination of a heavily backcombed pouffy crowns with a mid-head straight tail.

There is some controversy over whether the quiff (pronounced so it sounds like wiff with a Q in front) is a 40s, 50s or 60s hairstyle.

Some fashionistas claim the quiff first appeared in the mid 1940s around the time that World War II ended.  Others link it back to the era of the 50s or the 60s.

In reality, the quiff doesn't fade very far from the catwalks.  The edgy style emerges every few years in a variety of incarnations from a partial to a full blown hair design.

Imagine my excitement when I spotted gorgeous blonde Kaley Cuoco of ABC's 8 Simple Rules (now defunct) on Jimmy Kimmel with a low key example of the hot new hairstyle.

Ironically, the Paris haute couture fashion show season which followed The Olympus Fashion Week in New York by several months demonstrated that Robinson is truly a trend setter.  Designer Yohi Yamamoto edged up his hot 50s fashion trends revolving around pastel cardigans and pretty skirts.  Yamamoto folded in some oversized suits on rail thin models with industrial-strength lacquered sky high quiffs.

In some cases the front quiffs were combined with back hair knots and twists to trigger memories of a merged version of the the 50s bouffant/beehive.

Whether you wear it in a low key way with a ponytail like Kaley or a big style like the current Paris catwalks, the beauty of the quiff is that you don't have to have long hair to wear the 2004 version.

Even short haired folks can wear the quiff.  They simply pop a pin-on pony at the back of their heads for the straight bottom flow.

The quiff, like all super finished styles, works best on day-old hair that has time to accumulate some natural hair oils.  When possible, create your quiff on hair that is not super soft or slippery.

There is some question about when the quiff first made its appearance.  Some say that it was in the mid 1940s around the time that World War II ended.  Others link it back to the era of the 50s.

The 2004 version of the Quiff is sleeker and isolated to just the front portion of the head.  It is usually combined with the long sleek pony that either cascades to one side or straight down the back.

    Step By Step Instructions

Follow the instructions below to steal Kaley's catwalk quiff.

    1.  Start with aged hair (day old) that is either naturally straight or has been blown out stick straight.

If you prefer to start with newly washed hair, be sure to prep with lots of styling products to help hold the quiff hairstyle in place.

    2.  Using a comb, a pick, or the tail of either, create a vertical part that runs completely across the top of your head from ear to ear.

The goal is to create two different sections of hair.  This should include a front and back section.  Depending on the desired height of the quiff, add more or less hair to the front section.

    3.  Clip off the front section of hair from the back section.

    4.  Separate the top section of hair into 1" sections.  Working on each section at a time, tease or backcomb the target section of hair to the desired height.

Note:  For the most lift and fullness it's important to separate strands into smaller individual sections.

    5.  Smooth each teased section carefully with your fingers or a comb. Layer each section on top of the previous one to create a firm foundation.

    6.  Use a firm hold hairspray after you backcomb each section for strong hold.

    7.  Pin the top section so that it has height and lift.

For a more dramatic quiff as showcased on the Paris runways, pull all of your tresses off your forehead.  If you prefer a softer look, combine your quiff with a forehead fringe.

    8.  Unclip the back section of hair.  Gather remaining strands into a ponytail.  Arrange the pony so the base rests at the middle of the back of your head.  Tie off the tail with a Blax or bungee that matches your current hair color.

For a more finished look, select approximately 1 inch of hair from the side of the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the Blax or Bungee to camouflage the bangs.

For a more formal look, skip the ponytail and form the remaining hair in the back into a hair bun or twist.  Pin the newly formed bun up off the neck.Source URL: https://cognition-senses.blogspot.com/search/label/hairsalon

Bob Hairstyle Secrets

    Bob Hairstyle Secrets

One trick many hairdressers know about creating a crisp, flawless bob hairstyle is to place a flat hand mirror directly and horizontally under the perimeter of the finished cut.

The glass in the mirror reflects the line of the Bob at a perfect angle for checking and fine tuning the cut.

What does this trick tell you about a Bob?  That's it's key to find a hairstylist with lots of Bob cutting experience and skill.  Ultimately how good your bob looks depends on the hairstylist who cuts it for you.

This style is best for hair which is naturally straight or has very light natural waves and/or loose curls.  Yes, it can be cut on hair which has lots of curl but to create the traditional Bob shape it will have to be either chemically relaxed or straightened or flat ironed daily.

According to Michael Boychuck, owner of Primp Salon in Nevada, people in dry climates like Las Vegas love the bob's geometric cut because it’s basically wash-and-go.

Again, keep in mind that it depends on your base hair texture.  This may not be true for all hair types.

Follow the steps below to re-create Camila's gorgeous hairstyle worn on an episode of Shear Genius 3.

Although her long naturally curly tresses were most likely covered by a Bob wig, you can still create the look on your own hair with the following steps:

    1.  Cleanse your hair according to your normal routine (Diluted Shampoo, Water Only, Conditioner Only).  For added fullness use a volumizing shampoo.
    2.  Rinse well and apply rinse-out conditioner appropriate to your hair length, type, texture and condition.
    3.  Finish with a cool or cold water rinse.
    4.  Towel blot to remove excess moisture.
    5.  Apply styling cocktail including a volumizing product to pump up roots.  If your hair tends to frizz include an anti-defrisant product to the cocktail.  Detangle from ends to roots.
    6.  Create desired part with tail comb and separate hair into 2 inch sections.  Work around the head using a100% boar bristle round brush in combination with a blow drier with a concentrator nozzle.  Direct air flow from roots down to the ends for shine.  Once each strand is dry, move onto the next

Note:  To add volume to the roots, pull each strand up with your fingers and direct air flow from the ends to the roots.  This will build in more fullness.

    7.  When hair is completely cool go over the strands with a medium flat iron to add sleekness and turn the ends under.
    8.  Finish with a shine enhancing hairspray.  Add an optional hair flower.

Winter 2010-2011 Haircut Trends

For fall/winter 2010-2011, long hair becomes longer, while short means super short. When it comes to hair color, drastic changes are the key words. You should whether stick to your natural color or go to the extremes and choose something totally different from your natural color.

    Super short

Very short hair, “à la garçonne” style is the ideal hairstyle for fall/winter 2010-2011 specially created for bold women. This year, androgynous, very short hairstyles can be applied even on curly hair and they look stunning if you have a blonde hair color. Very short hairstyles are very versatile.

Today you can adopt a playful look, tomorrow you can be a strong business woman, and in the evening you can play the passionate and sexy woman. All you need is imagination and self-confidence. Besides, this is a very flattering hairstyle, enhancing the beauty of your face. If you are more daring, go for a punk inspired hairstyle and a platinum blonde hair color.

    Bob

The layered short bob is the ultimate trend for fall/winter 2010-2011, but make sure it has a studied messiness. If you don't dare to cut your hair into a short bob, you can still be trendy choosing the longer version. You add layers throughout the hairstyle and you may even go for long bangs.

Bobs are easy to style, are very practical and work great for every face shape. They can be elegant for the office or sexy and glamorous for a date, while they can still look effortless during the day.

    Medium-length hair

Medium-length seems to be the safest option when it comes to hairstyles. They are easier to maintain than longer hairstyles and more versatile than short ones. For fall/winter 2010-2011 we opt for medium-length hairstyles with a side parting for a glamorous and ultra feminine look that will allow you to play with different styles from natural during the day and soft curls for an evening event. You can also choose to add some stylish, long side-swept bangs that will enhance the beauty of your eyes. For a retro, feminine look, wavy medium-length hair works well.

    Long hair

This year's trend means long, very long natural hair, whether you have it curly or straight. Forget about all harmful styling tools. You can adopt a layered hairstyle with bangs, or if you don't want bangs, you should know that the middle parting is totally hot especially on an effortless look. For those of you who have a square face, long hair should be shoulder blade length without layers and definitely not thinned out.Source URL: https://cognition-senses.blogspot.com/search/label/hairsalon

Hairspray Tips

While hairspray might have gotten a bad reputation with past hair clogging formulas, the products available today are much more lightweight and hair-friendly. So, if it’s been a while since you’ve used hairspray, or if you’re looking for a great tough-hold hair styling product which is virtually fuss-free to use, then give hairspray a try - and make the most of it with these tips!

Hairsprays come in different strengths to cater to all types of hairstyles. As a general rule, low hold spray is for looks that require nothing more than hold, such as straight hairstyles. Medium hold can cater for more structured styles, such as a half up, half down hairstyle or some loose carefree waves. And strong hold is for the more elaborate looks such as updos and anything that requires all-day hold such as a wedding hairstyle or a formal hairstyle.

As well as different strengths, hairsprays also have different features depending on the brand. For example, some hairspray products feature a flexible hold which will allow you to style your hair one way, then give you locks a brush and re-style another way. It’s perfect for day to night looks or for an after work get together which requires a new 'do.

One of the most common uses for hairspray is to add volume to your hair and there are plenty of volumizing hairsprays on sale that cater for this use. Add them to your roots and under layers to give your locks a volume hit.

Hairspray can be used to revive a day old blow-dry by flipping your hair forward, giving it a good spritz with the hairspray, and then flipping your hair back and using your fingers to smooth your style back into place.

For a natural looking hairstyle that will hold in place all day, spray hairspray into your hair brush and then brush it through your hair. Style your hair into place and then add another fine coat of hairspray over your locks directly from the can to set your style.

It can be used to set your curls. Once your hair rollers are in place, or you’ve wrapped section of hair around your curling iron, spritz your locks with hairspray to help create and keep your curly shape.

Hairspray is suitable for all hair types.

Remember that a good hairspray will not leave your hair sticky or full of flakes. If it does then try another brand.

Hairspray can be used to tame fly-away strands. Try this trick of spraying your hands with hairspray and then running your palms gently over your locks to keep any fly-aways in place.

If you hate that crunchy feel that can result from using hairspray then there are two ways to avoid it. The first is to make sure that you don’t overdo it on the hairspray. Too much hair product will overload your locks and make them sticky and crunchy. Make sure you use the minimum amount for the style you’re trying to create (use the less is more approach and only add more spray if needed). The second is for when you’re heat styling. After adding your hairspray to your hair, let it soak in a little before using your blow-dryer, hair straightener or curling iron so that the heat doesn't make your hairspray finish too solid or stiff.

If you’ve used hairspray as your setting product and you then find that your style is starting to drop then you can reactivate your hairspray by spritzing your locks with a little water.

Our final hairspray tip is to pack a mini can of hairspray in your handbag to fix any minor hairstyle emergencies on the go.Source URL: https://cognition-senses.blogspot.com/search/label/hairsalon

2011 Hairstyle Trends - Braid style

Though sleek is chic and will never go out of style, one look you may want to try and perfect this 2011 if your hair is long enough is braids. And if your hair isn’t long enough yet, considering hair extensions may be in your beauty repertoire when you find out how hot this 2011 hairstyle trend really is. Braids have quickly become one of the hottest and sexiest looks making the braided hairstyle trend one of the hottest hair trends in 2010, and this trend is going to be even hotter this 2011. Whether it is a no muss no fuss beachy braid you swing down your side, or a sleek braid you pin back for a sexy night out, you can’t go wrong when you have braids on your side this year. What braided look do you want to carry this year? We’ll show you how!

Hairstyle trends may come and go but there are some looks that just never stop being sexy. Braided hair first made its comeback with Lauren Conrad Hairstyles on The Hills. Whether she had a soft braid tucked behind her ears with her gorgeous blonde waves hanging loose, or whether she plaited it all back for one sleek look, she became a trend setter in her own right no matter what look she had. Braids were also continued on the Spring 2010 runways, making them one of the hottest looks for 2010. For 2011, the braid continued on the catwalk with the hottest designers from Prada to Alexander Wang. And while we know that braids are sexy in their own right, how do you make them 2011 hot?

The two most common braided looks for 2011 hairstyle trends are a long side braid and a fishtail braid. Both of these looks walked down the Missoni Spring 2010 catwalk, and are predicted to appear on the 2011 Fall catwalks as well. The side braid is a Rapunzel style braid that for day is neither sleek nor clean, and is a somewhat messy braid that looks sexy without being too overstyled.

To get the side braid, you want to start with a side part on second day hair. The braid you create will be plaited then on the opposite side of your hair. The bohemian look is what makes this look sexy for day. After you have parted your hair, braid your hair down the opposite side, and secure with an elastic. Not mussy enough? Don’t be afraid to pull out a few strands from sections already braided, gentle is the key here. When you pull out pieces to muss up a look, be soft on the hand to create just enough muss, without looking like you just woke up. You can take this look to night just as sexy, but sleek is the look you want if you are taking a braid into the evening. On washed hair, make the side part and braid when your hair is wet. Finish with hairspray and you will have a gorgeous sexy look that will stay put all night.

The fish tail braid is a look that you can create just as easily as the side braid. Again, make a side part on dry or second day hair. Start braiding on the opposite side of your hair again, but with only two strands instead of three. Cross each strand over the other, like you would with a standard braid, but as you cross each section over, grab a tiny piece from the second strand and pull it all together. Again, you can muss this up a bit when you are finished, or complete this braid on washed and undried hair for a sleek and sexy night time do.Source URL: https://cognition-senses.blogspot.com/search/label/hairsalon
